Pure and Applied Mathematics (MSc programme in English)

General informations

The programme of study comprises 133 ECTS (=1000 hours of classes) spread over two years of study.

Aims and learning objectives

The objective of the programme is to provide the students with such a knowledge, problem solving skills and insight in mathematics that they are able to work professionally in different areas of mathematics (including teaching at primary or secondary school) or to use mathematical tools in the sectors of industry, information technology or finance. The programme also provides a good basis for PhD studies in mathematics.

Graduate skills and knowledge

A graduate of the programme:

  • has the deep and comprehensive knowledge of mathematics and its applications,
  • has the knowledge and understanding of the role of logical argumentation and deductive reasoning, including formal proofs
  • has the ability of creating and testing mathematical conjectures
  • has the ability of explaining and conveying mathematical subjects
  • can build and use mathematical models
  • can use advanced computer-aided methods
  • is prepared to continue studies at PhD level.

Languages

  • English as language of instruction in both years
  • examinations may be conducted either in English or in Polish
  • Master Thesis may be written either in English or in Polish
  • intensive course in Polish as a foreign language during the first semester
