The Department's research focuses on functional analysis and operator theory, especially on unbounded subnormal operators, operators of mathematical physics, the theory of orthogonal polynomials and applications of Hilbert space methods in the theory of moment problems. The Department also conducts research in the fields of Banach algebras (including Banach function algebras and von Neumann algebras), geometry of Banach spaces (in connection with Gowers' classification program of Banach spaces), topology (including metric spaces) and topological groups.
